2023 marked PHP's 40th year of serving employers and employees in our community. Established in 1983, PHP has consistently delivered access to affordable healthcare tailored to the unique needs of employers and their employees throughout Northern Indiana. As Indiana’s only not-for-profit health insurance carrier, our mission has been to create innovative solutions that contribute to healthier communities through caring and collaboration.
To celebrate our “ruby” anniversary, we planned a variety of events and activities to get the entire team involved, while including our members, clients, broker agencies, and community partners in the celebration. Our mission and values were also incorporated into this milestone, just as they are in our routine day-to-day tasks.
Staff-directed Non-profit Donations
Tapping into our corporate value of social purpose, we held a voting event to engage the PHP team in directing charitable donations in honor of our 40 year anniversary. Sticking with the ruby theme, each team member was given a red ball that represented $40. They were able to place their ball into the organization of their choice (see picture below). Once the donation drive was over, PHP wrote checks to the organizations based on the amount of red balls each received. In total, more than $6,000 was donated to the following local non-profits:
- Arts United
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana
- Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana
- Humane Fort Wayne
- Little River Wetlands Project
- Matthew 25 Health and Care
Family Zoo Day
We treated our team members and their families to a day at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo this past summer, as part of the 40-year celebration. It was a great day to mark this occassion with the PHP family, including lunch, goodie bags, and family fun touring this Fort Wayne treasure!
Volunteering
We weren’t the only business celebrating 40 years in our community. Community Harvest Food Bank also celebrated this same milestone in 2023 and we decided to join forces to mark this special occasion. We held two volunteer event days where PHP team members volunteered during work hours at Community Harvest Food Bank, some shifts at the Tillman Road facility and another at a Farm Wagon distribution site.
“PHP has a long history of community involvement in the areas we serve, whether that be through monetary contributions or donation of time volunteering and serving non-profit organizations,” said Gary Shearer, PHP President and CEO. “We were happy to provide our employees the opportunity to give back as a team in honor of our 40th anniversary, and pleased to partner with a vital community partner such as Community Harvest Food Bank.”
Open House Celebration
We wouldn’t have been able to celebrate this milestone if it wasn’t for our employees, clients, broker partners, providers, members, and our community. To recognize all of these important groups and gather in celebration, we held an open house event to thank them. We even had a special appearance by Icy D. Eagle from the Fort Wayne Komets!
Here's to another 40 years!
Governed by medical professionals and business representatives from our region, PHP remains steadfast in cultivating healthier communities across its service areas. We are grateful for the years we have been able to provide our services to the community and we look forward to many more.
“Our 40-year journey is a testament to our unwavering dedication to the well-being of our clients, members, network physicians and broker partners,” shared Shearer. “We’re immensely grateful for our achievements thus far and excited for the road ahead as we continue to grow offerings providing employers a local choice for their employee benefits.”
